How Coaching is Delivered

Coaching that starts with a conversation

There isn’t one fixed way to work with a coach.

The right approach depends on what you’re trying to achieve, what’s happening in your life right now and the kind of support you need.

Whether you’re looking for Career Coaching, Life Coaching or Sport & Endurance Coaching, the first step is to have a conversation. We can talk about where you are, what you’d like support with and what approach might work best for you.

You don't need to have everything worked out before we speak.

Career & Life Coaching

Regular coaching sessions

Career and Life Coaching sessions are generally booked on a regular basis, usually around once a month.

The frequency can vary depending on your circumstances, what you’re working through and how much support you need at the time.

Typically, coaching is offered for up to six sessions. This gives us time to explore an issue properly, try different approaches, reflect on progress and work towards meaningful change, while keeping the coaching purposeful rather than open-ended.

Between sessions, you may choose to reflect on something we’ve discussed, try a different approach or take a practical step towards what you want to achieve.

Sessions are your space to think, reflect and move forward.

Start with a 20-minute discovery call

The first step is a free 20-minute discovery call.

It’s an opportunity for us to talk about what’s happening for you, what you’d like to explore and what you’re hoping to change.

We’ll agree an initial area to focus on, but you don’t need to have a perfectly defined goal. Sometimes the conversation itself helps you understand what you really want to work on.

And the focus can change. As you explore one area, something else may become more important. That’s a normal part of coaching.

What we might work on

Depending on your circumstances, this could include:
The focus is always shaped around you and what matters to you now.

Sport & Endurance Coaching

Running, Triathlon & Endurance Sport

Depending on your goals, support might include:

  • A personalised training plan
  • One-to-one coaching sessions
  • Regular coaching calls
  • Training reviews
  • Race and event preparation
  • Support with pacing and training structure
  • Confidence and mindset support
  • Ongoing adjustment of your training plan

You don’t have to commit to a long-term programme before you know what you need.

The aim is to provide the right level of support for your goals, whether that’s a single session, a short block of coaching or ongoing support.

Swimming

You may need:

  • A one-off swimming lesson
  • Two or three sessions focused on a particular area
  • Technique analysis and development
  • Open water preparation
  • Confidence building

A flexible approach to your sporting goals

Sport coaching works differently because the support you need will depend on your sport, experience, goals and the time you have available.

You might want help with your swimming technique, while someone else may be preparing for an Ironman and need a longer-term training plan with regular coaching and reviews.

We’ll start with a conversation about where you are now, what you’re working towards and what support would be most useful.

Why a Structured Package Helps

A package gives you time to go deeper than a single conversation. It allows space to notice patterns, test new approaches, reflect on what is working and build confidence gradually.

Develop skills that support work, life and wellbeing

Build confidence through reflection and action

Break larger goals into manageable steps

Create clarity around your current situation

Review progress in a supportive coaching space

Stay connected to what matters to you

Make decisions with more steadiness

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Coaching provides you with time and space to think, reflect and focus on what matters most to you. It can help you gain clarity, build confidence, explore your options and identify practical steps forward.

Coaching is a collaborative process, focused on you, your goals and what you want to achieve.

Coaching can be helpful if you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed or at a crossroads. You may be navigating a change in your career, going through a significant life transition, looking to build confidence or working towards a sporting or endurance goal.

You don't need to have everything figured out before getting in touch. Sometimes simply knowing that something needs to change is enough to start the conversation.

I offer coaching across three main areas:

Career Coaching – for people navigating career change, workplace challenges, leadership or decisions about what comes next.

Life Coaching – for people going through periods of change, looking for greater clarity, confidence or direction.

Sport and Endurance Coaching – supporting individuals in swimming, cycling, running, triathlon and other endurance goals, from beginners through to more experienced athletes.

Wellbeing is a theme that can run throughout all areas of coaching.

TRI-Xtra is my approach to coaching and development. It brings together coaching, reflection, behaviour change and, where relevant, performance techniques to help you create meaningful and sustainable progress.

The approach considers the connection between mindset, behaviour and action, helping you explore what is important to you and move forward at a pace that works for your life.

Every session is shaped around you and what you want to focus on. We will explore your thoughts, challenges, goals and options in a supportive and confidential environment.

The aim is not to tell you what to do, but to help you gain clarity and identify practical steps that feel right for you.

This will depend on your individual circumstances and what you want to achieve. Some people benefit from a small number of sessions focused on a specific challenge, while others prefer ongoing coaching and support.

We can discuss what might work best for you during our initial conversation.

We can discuss the most appropriate option and costs when we speak.

The best place to start is with a free, no-obligation conversation. We can discuss what is happening for you, what you would like to achieve and whether coaching is the right next step.

You can get in touch by phone, email or through the contact form on the website.

Coaching that fits real life

Whatever type of coaching you’re looking for, I believe the support needs to fit the life you’re actually living.

Work, family, commitments, energy, confidence, recovery and other responsibilities can all affect what is realistic.

That’s why I don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach.

For Career and Life Coaching, we review what you’re working on and how things are progressing.

For Sport & Endurance Coaching, training can be adapted around your circumstances as well as your sporting goals.

The aim is progress that fits your life — not a plan that expects your life to fit around it.

What happens next?

You don’t need to know exactly what coaching you need before you get in touch.

We’ll start with a conversation about where you are, what you’d like to achieve and what kind of support might work best for you.

From there, we can agree the most appropriate way to work together.
